Demonstration Program

Island Blue is pleased to introduce our demonstration program designed to bring new and interesting ideas to your school art programs.

The demonstration program is currently only available to our local School Districts - SD 61 Victoria, SD 62 Sooke and SD 63 Saanich (Gulf Islands excluded).

Andrea Soos, our school representative, will be available to come to your school and talk to your students during a scheduled art class. We have developed several areas of interest that Andrea can demonstrate and there is the possibility of some hands-on fun depending on the area chosen. This is a great opportunity for us to help you introduce your students to new products, techniques and hopefully provide you with some ideas for future art products. This program is free of charge and Island Blue will supply all materials for the demonstration.

These are the programs we have developed for this school year ending June 2011.

• 

  Artist Trading Cards

  In this hands-on demonstration, you can see the appeal of working on a small scale. Trading Cards are 2.5 x 3.5 inches and are often traded among a community of artists. Our demonstration will show techniques of collage, stamping, painting and more.

• 

  Mail Art

  This hands-on demonstration will allow students to create their own postcards ready for mailing. We will explore several collage techniques, stamping and painting.

• 

  Monoprinting

  A hands-on workshop exploring monoprinting. Monoprinting is a way of creating unique prints while using printmaking techniques.

• 

  Lino Block Printing

  This hands-on workshop will allow students to carve with a lino cutting tool and create their own stamp. Students will also explore printmaking inks.

• 

  Simple Sculpture

  Using a variety of scultping materials, Andrea will demonstrate how sculptures can be built. Polymer clays, molds, rigid wraps and paper mache will be explored.

If there is a topic you specifically want to introduce to your students let us know and we can tailor something specific to your needs. There will be a limit to two demonstrations per school, per year.
